Ruakaka: the heart of Whangarei South, New Zealand

Ruakaka has a community of more than 4,300 permanent residents with up to 10,000 at Christmas, New Year and other holiday weekends. It is forecast to be the fastest growing town in Northland.

They have many different community groups and clubs, including:

Ruakaka Surf Lifesaving Patrol promotes safe swimming at Ruakaka Beach. They have clubrooms on the beach and membership of all ages.

Ruakaka Recreation Centre, comprising two Squash Courts, the Library with community meeting room, and Creche is centrally located on the opposite side of Takutai Place from the Ruakaka Town Centre.

Sports Fields around the Recreation Centre are the home ground for Ruakaka's many Touch Rugby and Soccer teams.

Public Toilets are located on Peter Snell Rd close to the Intersection with Marsden Pt Rd, outside the Kindergarten and Ruakaka Town Centre, opposite the entrance to Bream Bay College.

Educational Facilities:

Ruakaka is the centre of education for the South Whangarei district, offering schools at all levels including preschool, three conveniently handy primary schools and the secondary college.

Ruakaka Creche for preschool children up to age 5, adjacent to the Recreation Centre, on the other side of Takutai Place from Ruakaka Town Centre

Ruakaka Kindergarten for preschoolers up to age 5 located on Peter Snell Road within the Ruakaka Town Centre block.

Waipu School 6 Argyle Street, Waipu

Bream Bay College, the only intermediate and secondary school south of Whangarei, serving Ruakaka, One Tree Point, Takahiwai, Mata and Waipu districts caters for years 7 to 13.

The New Ruakaka Community Hub which incorporates an expanded library, meeting rooms and and enhanced Council Service Centre has been built by Whangarei District Council within the Ruakaka Town Centre block.
